TRAVEL JOURNAL #3 | A YEAR IN PORTO | COASTAL SHOOTS

This spring marks a full year of living in Porto—a city that continues to inspire me creatively and personally. To celebrate, I shot a new series for the collection in one of my favourite spots, a location I stumbled upon last summer while wandering the coastline.

I spend a lot of time walking this stretch—from the old town of Foz do Douro to Matosinhos—along a boardwalk that runs right beside the ocean. It’s a path full of texture and contrast: rocky beaches, modernist buildings, beach bars nestled into stone coves, and waves crashing dramatically against the shore.

The shoot took place in a striking, tucked away structure with curved tiled walls, butter yellow tones, and a bright turquoise tile façade. There’s something soft and cinematic about it—almost Art Deco with a touch of 1970s seaside nostalgia. Further along, we found a terracotta striped stairway that echoed the warmer tones in the collection.

We were lucky with the weather—Porto gifted us golden afternoon sun—and the shoot, photographed by Fábio Silva, captured the effortless, laid-back feeling I want the sarongs to embody.

| TOP PICKS - WHAT TO DO + SEE ALONG THE WAY |

  • Wander through the old town of Foz: A charming neighbourhood where the Douro meets the Atlantic. Once a fishing village, it became a stylish coastal getaway in the 19th century, full of elegant villas and lush promenades.
  • Pub Bonaparte: A pub born in 1977, a local institution for beers and vintage decor.
  • Pergola da Foz: A picturesque seaside walkway framed by neoclassical pillars.
  • Ibar Praia Do Aquário: A casual spot right on the beach for a drink or light lunch with a view.
  • Castelo do Queijo: A small 17th-century fortress perched on the rocks—photogenic and full of history.
  • Parque da Cidade: Portugal’s largest urban park, great for a morning stroll or picnic.
  • Anémona Sculpture: An atmospheric seaside installation evoking the shape of fishing nets, designed to sway gently in the breeze and cast shifting shadows—beautiful at both dawn and dusk.
  • Praia de Matosinhos: A wide, city beach that’s great in the summer and catching waves in the winter months.
  • Salta O Muro: A cosy, family run seafood restaurant in Matosinhos.
  • Piscina das Marés: Built in the 1960s by Álvaro Siza Vieira’s - an iconic seawater pools carved into the coastline.

Currently, the hero products are the sarongs, made in Portugal. Available in two lengths—the Edie Mini and the Rae Midi—these versatile, one size fits UK 8-14  pieces come with a matching drawstring bag, perfect for travel and easy packing. Each sarong is made from cotton and viscose blends, and all fabrics are sourced as deadstock, ensuring that my collections are both limited and sustainable.
